Three music apps, built slowly and properly.
Walrus Machine is a small software studio. We would rather make a few instruments you keep for years than a platform you forget by spring.
This is a tape. The walrus reads it one cell at a time and plays what it finds. Click any cell to write a different note.
The machine is stopped.Composer
A whole chord under one finger.
Hold a key and Composer answers with the full chord. Choose its colour, add a seventh or a ninth, and move to the next idea before you lose this one.
It is a sketchpad for the first ten minutes of a song, when theory only gets in the way.
In the workshop. No release date yet.
A pocket version. Pick a colour, then hold a key.
Jardín
A private garden for unfinished songs.
Upload sketches, demos and rough mixes, then share them by link with your band, your producer, or nobody at all.
It is streaming without the audience. There is no feed, no follower count and no algorithm with opinions about your bridge.
Growing. In daily use by the band it was built for.
Tuesday rehearsalShared with 4 people, not with the internet
Tap a song to water it.
Songs are allowed to stay seeds for as long as they need.
Groovy Cat
A drum teacher who happens to be a cat.
Plug in an electronic kit and play along. The cat tells you the truth about every hit: early, late, or right in the pocket, to the millisecond.
Lessons are short and scored, so you can see yourself getting better. On our bench the sound reaches your ears 6.5 milliseconds after the stick lands.
In the workshop. A playable prototype is on the bench.
Start the click, then tap the pad on every beat.
A browser toy with browser timing. The app listens to real drums.
How the machine is programmed
A Turing machine runs on a table of rules: what it reads, what it writes back, and what it does next. Ours is short.
| When we read | We write | And then |
|---|---|---|
| “Can it ship by Friday?” | It ships when it feels right in the hands. | Stay on this cell. |
| A feature for everybody | A better feature for somebody. | Move one cell forward. |
| 30 milliseconds of latency | 6.5 milliseconds. | Repeat until nobody can hear it. |
| An idea for a fourth app | A note in the drawer. | Go back and polish the third. |
| Nothing left to fix | Halt. |
We are a studio of very few people in San Juan, Argentina, at the foot of the Andes. We stay small on purpose, so that whoever designs a thing is also the one who answers for it.
